Roadrunners tie for third at rain-shortened SMU Stonebridge Invitational

McKINNEY, Texas — Led by a third-place showing from junior John Elizondo (San Antonio, Texas/Brackenridge), the UTSA men’s golf team fired a three-over-par 291 to tie for third place at the rain-shortened SMU Stonebridge Invitational on Tuesday at Stonebridge Country Club’s Dye Course (7,346 yards, par 72).
      Elizondo carded a three-under 69 to lead the Roadrunners to a 291 team total and a tie for third with Oklahoma City University. Texas-Arlington won the team title with a two-under 286, while Southeastern Louisiana was runner-up at two-over 290.

      Freshman Nick Olivarri (Converse, Texas/Judson) turned in a one under 71 to tie for eighth place, giving UTSA two golfers in the top 10. Sophomore Matt Johnston (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) tied for 14th at even-par 72. Sophomore Tim Martin (Mandeville, La.) and freshman Philipp Krohn (Norderstedt, Germany) tied for 66th (79) and 77th (83), respectively.
      The first and second rounds originally scheduled for Monday were washed out due to rain in the Dallas area. The Roadrunners take a month-long break before concluding the fall season at the Del Walker Collegiate on Nov. 4-5 in Long Beach, Calif.
