UTSA men's golf team signs Nick Olivarri
SAN ANTONIO - UTSA head men's golf coach Chris Donielson
announced Tuesday the signing of Nick Olivarri of San Antonio
to a national letter of intent.
Olivarri, who attends Converse Judson High School, has made
waves on the prep and junior golf circuits over the past
several years. He won the 2003 San Antonio City High School
Championship with rounds of 72 and 70 and took top honors
at the 2003 Trans-American Junior Championship after carding
a 69 and 71.
The All-City Super Team member qualified to represent the
United States in the 2003 World Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrews,
Scotland, and finished with a 2-1-0 record. Olivarri also
was the runner-up at district (73-74) and at the American
Junior Golf Association IRI Golf Group Junior at Oakridge
in Garland, Texas, (70-78-69) earlier this year.
Olivarri won the district title in 2001 and the San Antonio
City Junior Championship in 2000 (73-73-70-66). He also
tied the single-round record in the Texas/Oklahoma Junior
Golf Championship with a 64, finishing second (74-64-73-75)
in 2000 after winning the event in 1999 (67-72-72-71).
"We feel extremely excited to add a player the caliber of
Nick Olivarri to our program," Donielson said. "He has a
very good resumé and has had a fantastic junior career so
far. Adding another quality player from San Antonio is a
huge boost for us, and we are as equally excited to have
parents like Nick's be a part of our program."
