(Dec 4, 2002) UTSA golf coach Chris Donielson announced the signing of Kittinan Thabungkan to a letter of intent.
The Thailand standout, a senior at the American School of Bangkok, played for the Thailand Junior National team in 2001 and 2002. Some of his accomplishments include a 15th place finish (72-74-71-72-289) in the 16-18 year-old division of the Junior World Golf Championship at Torry Pines South Course in San Diego in 2001. He also was awarded First Order of Merit for Thai Junior Golfer of the Year from the Thailand Golf Association by winning the Thai Airways Junior Championship with scores (71-70-71-69) at -7 under par. In 2002 he won the National Amateur ranking with a score (69-67-65-71) -16 under par, finished third place at the 23rd Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championships in Malaysia, and won the Thailand Longest Driving Contest at 310.65 yards.
In all, Thabungkan has recorded 34 victories and 63 top 5 finishes in his junior golfing career.
