Border Olympics Qualifiers
UTSA ties for 12th in 2004 Border Olympics
(4/3/2004 Laredo, Texas) With the courageous team riddled with injury and illness, UTSA Senior Mike Mezei carded a one-over-par 74 72 71 (217) tied for 16th place to lead the Roadrunner men's golf team to a tie for 12th place at the Border Olympics hosted by Texas A&M at Laredo Country Club (7,125 yards - par 72). UTSA scored 302 292 296(890) +26. SMU won the tourney with 282 276 294 (852) -12. Martin Laird of Colorado State took low medal honors with 68 68 71 (207) -9.
          Kitt Thabungkan shot 75 72 73 (220) +4, John Elizondo 79 74 74 (227) +11, Matt Johnston with 74 74 84 (232) +16, Tim Martin playing as an individual with 75 79 78 (232) +16, and Ryan Cromwell with 79 84 78 (241) +25.
     The Roadrunners now have a couple of weeks to heal, and be ready for Soutland Conference Tournament.

Roadrunners finish 6th in UALR Lindsay Classic

     (3/30/04 Eagle Hill GC, Little Rock, Arkansas) The UTSA Roadrunner men's golf team finished in 6th place with 287-296-322 (905 +53) in the Lindsey Collegiate Classic at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club. UALR won its own tournament with 289-291-300 (880 +28).
      Kitt Thabungkan finished in 5th place with 69-73-78 (220 +7). Tied at 28th was Mike Mezei 73 76 78 (227), 41st Matt Johnston 70 76 84 (230). 53rd Luke Healy 75 73 85 (233), and 58th Tim Martin 80 74 82 (236).       UALR shot a final-round 300 to overcome a two-shot deficit and win the Classic. Jacksonville State's Nick Mackay chipped in a shot from the sand to take individual honors over UALR's Patrick Sullivan.

Mike Mezei Southland Conference Golfer of the Week
(2/10/2004 Plano, Texas)
UTSA senior Mike Mezei (Lethbridge, Alberta) has been named Southland Conference Golfer of the Week for helping lead the Roadrunners to the Rice Intercollegiate title, the league office announced Wednesday.  More... UTSA wins 3rd season victory by five strokes at Rice Invitational
     (Cypress TX 2/10/04) The #45 ranked UTSA Roadrunners won their third golf tournament of the year at the Rice Invitational near Houston, Texas. The win was by an amazing five full strokes. Two players won individual titles against strong fields, helping the Roadrunners to a No. 45 national ranking out of 3,300 schools. Conference leading Roadrunners wrap up double victory fall with 2nd at Del Walker; Schaeffer hits hole-in-one
(Long Beach, CA 11/7/03) The UTSA golf team finished the fall season #45 of 3300 national schools, with a record of two wins, two seconds and a fifth, as they placed second by only two strokes with a 2-over-par score of 868, against a strong national field in the Del Walker Collegiate today, beating the likes of Houston, Arizona, Oregon State and Lamar. Again! UTSA captures team and individual honors for 2nd time in new season at Crown Colony Classic
(Lufin TX Crown Colony GC - 10/14/03) The UTSA Roadrunners continue their winning season with their second victory today on the Crown Colony Golf Course, rated toughest in the state. The team won by 8 strokes with a final round of 300, low team for the day, in terrible wind, with the tees all the way back. Click Team and Individual and Indvidual Details for final results. UTSA places 2nd in Missouri Nestle Purina Golf Classic

     (Missouri Bluffs GC, St. Charles, MO 10/7 2:06pm) John Elizondo, Mike Mezei and Matty Johnston all shot under par for the tournament as UTSA placed 2nd behind nationally ranked #9 Kansas State (record breaking 22-under-par (277-268-285=830) today with a 6-under-par 282-284-280=846.  John Elizondo was low Roadrunner medalist with a three-round 6-under-par score of 69-69-69=207, while Mike Mezei finished with a low round 67 (4-under-par 72-70-67=209). UTSA golf team 5th at Fall 2003 Baylor Invitational
      (WACO, TEXAS) Looking for a second straight team championship, the UTSA men's golf team had to settle for fifth place as play concluded at the 2003 Baylor Invitational. The Roadrunners, which were coming off of a team title last week at the Air Force Academy, shot a three-round total of 876 to finish eight strokes behind tournament champion LSU, which shot an 868. UTSA Roadrunners win season opener at Falcon Invitational; Mezei course record, Elizondo 3rd
     
(Air Force Academy, Sunday, September 21, 2003) The UTSA men's golf team, led by a first place record performance from senior Mike Mezei, opened the 2003-04 golf season with a resounding three-stroke victory at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by the United States Air Force Academy. Mezei tied a 30-year-old tournament record by shooting a nine-under-par 207 as he cruised to the victory at a tournament and course that has seen the likes of Hale Irwin, Steve Jones, Tom North and Johnny Miller over the years. ChipIn Club congrats to March Madness bound UTSA basketball team!
(3/14/04) The Roadrunner mens golf team and its boosters are excited for the UTSA men's basketball team headed to Seattle for the first round against powerhouse Stanford on March 18th. Congratulations!
Mike Mezei ranked #29 in nation
(Golfstat 3/5/04) The official NCAA sanctioned GolfStat ranks Roadrunner Mike Mezei at number 29 in the nation this week. He has averaged 71.10 in 21 rounds this year. John Elizondo is ranked at 201 with a 72.90 average..

Coach Donielson is starting a challenge to help you improve your game and build the base of supporters for the golf team. We are looking forward to an incredible year with the talent of players coming in.

Player Donor - $250 per year     
      Also, members participating at the Player donation level shall receive a pewter bag tag, choice of team golf cap or shirt, confirmed reservation for spring golf event, communications as a member of the ChipIn Club, including media guide, quarterly newsletter and on-going e-mail updates.
     Referral Bonus: get a friend to join the ChipIn Club…you get two additional lessons.

Medalist Donor - $1,000 per year or $250 per quarter
     Two lessons A MONTH FOR A YEAR with Coach or as quick as you want to fit them in your schedule. The value of the lessons equates to $1,440 alone! The Medalist Donor provides an excellent annual tax deductible donation*. As a Medalist, you are qualified to attend Board meetings and golf team activities, and to receive special consideration, including:

A fun filled day at the Dominion in our annual golf team fundraiser Monday, May 10th

     Come celebrate a fantastic season that our team has had. Some of the highlights include three team wins, two-second place finishes, and two individual wins to date....
    What a great year for the squad of eight players. With Mike Mezei and John Elizondo winning this year, we are posed to play in the conference championship this coming Monday through Wednesday in Houston. See all the information on the www.chipinclub.com website.
      Now in its 18th year, the Roadrunner Golf Classic will be held on Monday, May 10th at the beautiful Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
     Proceeds from the UTSA Roadrunner Golf Classic will benefit the Mark Bruchmiller, Lance Mullins and Derek Steinbruck Memorial Scholarship Fund and the UTSA Intercollegiate Athletic Department.
     For your convenience the tournament will have afternoon tee-times only, with lunch being served from 11 a.m. until noon. Golf will be followed by dinner and an awards presentation.
