Lesson Testimonial Letter from ChipIn Club Member Taking Lessons
from UTSA Golf Coach Donielson

Dear Terry,
I am writing this letter because I wanted to share
the golfing experiences I have enjoyed since meeting the UTSA
Head Golf Coach, Chris Donielson.
Since meeting Coach last year, he has graciously
offered me several golf lessons. The improvement in my golf
game from my first lesson until today has been nothing short of
remarkable.
I have increased my driving distance more than
thirty yards, my iron distance has increased almost a full club
and more importantly my accuracy has improved, which combined
with my improved short game (also taught by Chris) allows my scores
to be lower than I have ever experienced in my twenty-five years
of playing the game.
My regular golf buddies can attest to my very noticeable
improvement. Prior to meeting Chris, competing on the same level
as one of them was completely out of the question and beating
any of the others was problematic. Now, I rarely lose to any of
them, which, of course, upsets them to no end.
I have won several closest to the pin prizes
in various scramble tournaments and a couple of free rounds of
golf as part of a high placing team. Prior to my lessons the only
thing I won at tournaments was an occasional raffle prize.
Chris has taught me so much about the mechanics
of my golf swing. I realize now how little I knew and many of
the ideas I thought were correct about my old swing, that I continually
reinforced with practice, were completely wrong. I have learned
and understand more about the game of golf since meeting Chris
than the entire rest of my golfing history combined , including
the three years I spent playing on my high school golf team.
Chris taught me a completely new golf swing in a
matter of a few lessons and he did it at my pace and taught me
with examples and demonstrations that were easy to learn and comprehend
even for a weekend golfer like myself. Chris taught me the mechanics
and how to correct my own periodic swing flaws, so bad habits
don't develop.
Before meeting Chris, my rounds were usually
between eighty-five and ninety-two. Since my first lesson, my
scores have improved steadily and now I am consistently in the
seventies. I now expect to break eighty when I play instead
of hoping to break ninety, as was the case in the past. I wanted
to publicly thank Chris for his much appreciated efforts and I
am forever indebted to him for spending his valuable time with
me.
Recently, I shot my personal best round of golf. I have developed
such confidence and positive swing thoughts that I was able to
birdie the last two holes for an even par round of seventy-two.
Before the end of my first lesson, Chris told me that I would
be able to shoot seventy-five in a short period of time. I was
very skeptical to say the least but he proved to be right. I couldn't
be more excited about my golf game and I owe it all to Coach Donielson.
Terry, as you know, since meeting Chris I have become
an active member of the ChipIn Club and I try to encourage everyone
to join if they're interested in helping Chris develop the UTSA
golf team into a strong and contending NCAA Division 1 program.
The benefit for me when joining were the lessons but little did
I know that I would have the opportunity to meet and play a round
of golf with several members of the UTSA Golf Team. I have met
and spoken at length with most of the golf team. I feel so confident
with the direction that the program is heading in, that I like
to challenge those thinking about joining the ChipIn Club. Simply
put, that if the benefits aren't ten fold and the team as well
as Coach Donielson aren't worth both your time and money, then
I'll owe you a dozen golf balls. You know, I haven't lost or even
come close to losing that bet!
Sincerely,
Douglas Sonego
